Welcome to the Law Office of William G. Causey, Jr.

If you are looking for a dedicated, hard-working, successful and experienced BOARD CERTIFIED CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY, then you have come to the right place.  I take great pride in providing great client service, whether it is in the courtroom or in the office.  I am the only attorney in my firm, so your case will never be passed on to an inexperienced associate.  My philosophy has always been to treat every client equally and with the respect they deserve, no matter how large or small their case may be.  Despite my busy court schedule, I strive to return every telephone call on the same day it is received.

I have handled thousands of criminal, traffic, DWI, and driver’s license cases over the last 24 years.  Because I have limited my practice areas to criminal, traffic and DWI cases, I have been able to focus my skills in this highly technical area.  I firmly believe that if you spread your practice area too thin that it is impossible to keep up with all of the constant changes in the law.  For example, North Carolina’s DWI laws have changed significantly in the last 5 years, with the last major change taking effect December 1, 2011.  Look under my practice areas web page to see a sampling of these changes.

My office is conveniently located at 1840 Eastchester Drive in High Point, across from Oak Hollow Lake Festival Park, where I handle cases in High Point, Greensboro, Thomasville and Lexington.   I am very fortunate to have a large group of loyal and satisfied clients who regularly refer their family and friends as new clients, I even receive many referrals from other attorneys who TRUST ME to take care of their family members or friends who need help in this sometimes sensitive area.  I understand that many clients may be embarrassed or scared to call an attorney if they have been charged with a DWI, traffic offense or criminal case.  Rest assured that after representing clients for over 24 years in these areas, I understand how you feel and will exercise great courtesy, understanding and confidentiality.

What does it mean to be board certified in state and federal criminal law?

In order to become Board Certified in State and Federal Criminal Law by the North Carolina State Bar, an attorney must devote at least 500 hours of his practice to criminal law every year, complete 40 hours of continuing legal education in criminal law and procedure every 3 years, pass a rigorous written test, peer review with character references from other attorneys and Judges, and most importantly, have extensive trial experience with Judges and juries trying felony cases and misdemeanors.

About William G. Causey, Jr.

I am a life-long resident of High Point, NC, graduating from T. Wingate Andrews High School in 1979.  I then enrolled at Appalachian State University, graduating in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, majoring in Economics.  I then enrolled in law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating in 1987, subsequently starting my own law practice.  I was admitted to practice in Federal Court in 1991 and became Board Certified in State and Federal Criminal Law by the North Carolina State Bar in 1996. ONLY A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF ATTORNEYS LICENSED BY THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA ARE BOARD CERTIFIED.  In addition to being Board Certified, I am also a former Assistant District Attorney.  I am a member in good standing of the North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Academy of Justice, the North Carolina Bar Association, the High Point Bar Association, the High Point Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Although a large part of my practice is devoted to DWI cases, I regularly handle cases from speeding tickets all the way up to murder cases.  To date I have handled 78 First-Degree Murder cases, with many involving the death penalty, which are the most complex and stressful cases an attorney can handle.  I have tried capital murder trials, during my 24 years of practice, in High Point, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Asheboro, Lexington, Salisbury, and Charlotte.  As you can see, although I handle all types of criminal cases such as speeding tickets, DWI and driving revoked cases, shoplifting and theft cases, drug offenses, assaults, robberies; I will not hesitate to take the most complicated and difficult case a lawyer can handle, a First- Degree Capital Murder case, and go anywhere in the state of North Carolina and ”put 12 jurors in the box” and try the case to verdict.

In 1991 I represented the defendant in the State of North Carolina v D. Combs, the infamous “coma case”.  My client was found NOT GUILTY of attempted murder and we later appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show.

Other areas of practice

The only other practice area that I handle are SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY AND WRONGFUL DEATH CASES.
